NextGen Hosting

OSIS provides best-in-class NextGen hosting, with environments that are scalable, reliable, and completely secure. Our NextGen focus means that we understand the unique requirements health centers require so their patient-critical data is always available. In this post we will answer some frequently asked questions about our hosting services.

Do you host within the cloud?

Yes, we host a private cloud of our Members and leverage public cloud services like Azure and AWS to facilitate certain services.

How will the hosting environment scale as we grow?

Entire environments are virtualized for maximum scalability. Virtual machines (VMs) are sized per named user plus application requirements tailored to each user's expectation. If you grow, so will we.

Will we have our own servers and data storage?

OSIS is not a hotel service where Members share resources, which can be common in the NextGen hosting industry. Each Member is given unique virtual machines dedicated to specific application roles to that Member. No VMs share Member responsibilities- every Member will have their own SQL server, remote desktop server, domain controllers, and filer serves all for your own practice.

Can we use our own domain?

In most cases, we can leverage your existing domain, either through complete hosting or a child domain trust. We have security set up to allow child domains to be created and a trust to be created from that child domain. This can allow you to have single sign on capabilities, where users will only need to know their own password.

Is single sign on available?

We support authenticated single sign on for both RDS (relational database service) and NextGen via RDS.

We also offer RemoteApp as a connection model where applicable. This allows for a user to have a NextGen icon on their desktop that can authenticated into OSIS RDS and display the applications like it was installed locally, presenting as an application instead of a full desktop. This is more secure than full desktop since it limits how much content is available.

What percentage of storage is "flash"?

100% of production environment is flash storage.

What type of monitoring tools do you use?

We use numerous monitoring tools including: Veeam and Veeam ONE, ManageEngine Application Monitor, SolarWinds, Idera, and PathSolutions

Will my team and I have access to the monitoring tools?

Most of the tools stated above can be provided to Member for access.

Can you tell me about your load balancing tools and solutions?

For load balancing solutions, we leverage 3Par Adaptive Optimization, VMware Storage Distributed Resource Schedular, Microsoft Windows Server 2016 Data Center Remote Desktop Load Balancing for our Terminal Server Collections.

How many users do you recommend per terminal server?

The number can vary depending on what other applications are required on the terminal server, but a good estimate is 15-25 users.

How often is data backed up?

Production is backed up every four hours with full backups being performed after every seventh incremental. Data is then replicated to our Co-Location facility in real-time. OSIS also performs a full database backup of Production nightly for report server updates.

How many copies of NextGen will be made available to us?

You will receive a Production environment and the following per request: Development, Test, and Demo.

We currently use a physical server for external NextGen faxing (prescriptions, referrals). What would be the solution switching to being OSIS hosted?

We use Right Fax for all faxing items. For referrals, we encourage practices to utilize NextGen Share. To read more about NextGen Share, check out our blog post. If you haven't deployed NextGen Share, we will do so for you.

How is printing and scanning handled?

OSIS utilizes TSPrint and TSScan for all remote desktop printing and scanning functions.

What type of circuit is recommended to access OSIS hosting?

We recommend appropriate point to point (MPLS) circuits based on site size, number of users, application needs, and type of connection. Our connection recommendations are based on number of users:

  • 50-100 users: 10-20mbps
  • 100-200 users: 50-75mbps
  • 200-300 users: 75-100mbps
  • 300+ users: 100+mbps
