How Smart Is Smart Note?

What is Smart Note?

Smart Notes are a critical way of communicating information about a patient's dental and  sometimes medical healthcare using interactive and predefined notes. The notes are interactive and pre-written associated with a particular treatment that is completed with predefined multiple choices. This allows the practice to create consistent and comprehensive notes by removing the need to recreate the same type of documentation over and over. There are two types of fields, static and variable, allowing each note to be customized to the individual patient procedure.

How is Smart Note used?

Smart Notes can be used in many different circumstances. They can be tied numerous things such as a particular procedure such as a composite filling or extraction, a palette button such as Emergency TX or Pallitive TX or Dr. Note, or to a particular provider or set of providers. A Smart Note can be excluded from a provider(s), can be an approval note for chart items entered by a user requiring approval, or can be an approval note for items entered on behalf of a provider - just to name a few.

When is Smart Note used?

  • All dental procedures performed on a patient
  • Clinic visits that are no charge
  • Provider notes (not approval notes)
  • Emergency phone calls if not documented in EHR
  • Follow-up calls by both hygiene and dental providers
  • To document OHI (Oral Hygiene Instructions)
  • To document Patient Dismissal due to being unable to treat that day
  • And many more options!
