Project Management 101
Imagine running into Target for one item, and you end up coming out of the store with 10 items. Inevitably, we end up walking out of the store in a daydream without the one item that we walked in for. We always start with the best intentions. This is a common scenario that occurs in our daily work and in our projects. When choosing an Electronic Health Record (EHR) Vendor, it is important to understand Project Management within your practice to avoid time-wasting habits like daydreaming through Target.
At OSIS, Project Management is at the forefront of Membership before a health center even becomes a Member. Through discovery, OSIS observes how a health center implements structure around introducing tools, solutions, training, and how this may optimize NextGen within the organization. With discovery, both OSIS and the health center look for overall commonalities in a mutual selection process to make sure we are the right fit for each other.
If a health center becomes an OSIS Member, we establish enforceable policies for system adoption by providing each Community Health Center Member with their very own dedicated OSIS team. The team assists our Members in forming a committee to steer the decisions required to achieve a highly functional system, remove barriers to adoption, and empower providers and staff to embrace the technology. We call this structure System Governance. It is a methodology for managing change and compliance to ensure that all stakeholders’ interests are considered, and the desired outcome is met.
System governance is the foundation for all automation. We cannot stress this enough. It is the reason implementations succeed and fail and have little to do with the actual EHR product. How you govern the NextGen solution says a lot about what you want the system to return to you. System governance can be daunting, but as an OSIS Member, our MISSION is to unlock the potential of technology to positively advance outcomes in the modern age of community healthcare, and we do this through project management and becoming an extension to your health center.
OSIS is an Extension to Your Health Center
To help guide health center’s NextGen processes, each OSIS Member receives a personal support experience that goes far beyond traditional help desk needs. Like the Patient Centered Medical Home model, our program holistically provides the expertise you need, when you need it. As a Member you will be introduced to a team of Subject Matter Experts dedicated to the needs of a Community Health Center. This team represents members from Project Management, EHR, EPM, Quality, and Account Management teams. They will serve as contributing members of both your financial and clinical committees. They will also provide consistent expertise, training, advice, and over 300 years of combined NextGen experience supporting other CHCs across the country, ensuring an optimized NextGen environment.
Optimizing Your Nextgen Environment
OSIS Members receive NextGen optimization consulting, training, and support services to support their health center by:
- Receiving recommended workflow and process improvements
- OSIS Project Managers leading all NextGen optimization projects and initiatives
- Offering a strategic development methodology for customizing KBM templates, adding over 300 custom solutions while on the NextGen upgradability path.
- Providing on-site and remote training support to health center staff and providers
Experience has shown us that in the absence of an on-going optimization methodology that calls for workflow reviews, process re-design, and training to address changes in regulatory documentation requirements and/or new NextGen functionality, the tendency to under adopt the technology is present.
If your health center needs a fresh perspective on adoption best practices for your NextGen instance and you wish to reap the power and benefits of an OSIS Membership, contact us today. We hope to work with your health center as preparation for the automation projects and initiatives planned for all health centers continue to knock on your doors.
