Starting in 2022, providers, facilities, and health plans will be required to give consumers upfront information on costs ahead of a service and potential out-of-network costs. Whether patients have health insurance or are currently uninsured, patients will be able to get estimated costs ahead of a service to help them avoid surprise bills. Before we review the NextGen PHI Log, we will highlight key HIPAA Privacy Rules, discuss HIPAA requirements for providing medical records to patients (Right of Access), and then review the NextGen PHI Log Template.

The daily update to the National Drug Code Directory likely causes a headache for many practices. According to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Drug products are identified and reported using a unique, three-segment number called the National Drug Code (NDC), which serves as a universal product identifier for drugs. The NDC Library in NextGen is used to define the information needed by payers on claims in Practice Management for drug related CPT/HCPCS codes.
